Sound Intensity
|
The threshold of hearing is the faintest sound a human can hear. Conversely, the most intense sound that humans can hear without damaging their ears is more than one billion times the intensity of the threshold. Due to the fact that humans are equipped with sensitive ears, it makes them capable of hearing sound waves that have low intensities. A decibel is the logarithmic ratio of the observed intensity level to a reference intensity. The reference intensity is equal to the threshold intensity mentioned above. A decibel scale is used to express intensity in a format that closely resembles the sensitivity of human ears, with more rapid increases in the decibel intensity level toward lower values of the ratio.
